ReliefAid in Gaza

$10,000 NZD donated to support ReliefAid's work in Gaza. ReliefAid’s team prepares meals in a temporary kitchen, packages them, and delivers them to displaced families. Water is also provided to families in refugee centers.

Myanmar TCD Project in Yone Taw (2) village

CT Trust has partially funded ($26,000 NZD) the Yone Taw TCD Project run by GHNI (total project cost is estimated to be $64,000 USD).

March 2024 update: 15 out of 25 microloan recipients have repaid their loans. Specifically:

  • 8 out of 10 families with betel nut plantations have repaid.
  • 7 out of 15 families in mat weaving businesses have repaid. There is a lack of buyers due to fewer travellers to the area recently (due to violence and security concerns).

There are many challenges including:

  • Community conflict and lack of unity, including political differences.
  • Security concerns and violence in the region. TCD staff are unable to visit the village.
  • Unstable market: Inflation of the price of goods, fewer travelers/visitors, fewer buyers.
  • Cyclones and bad weather damaging the plantations

Liberia Water Drill Team

$80,000 NZD donated to deliver a new Village Drill Hybrid to Sierra Leone / Liberia. The drill was delivered to Sierre Leone in June 2025. A three-week training will be conducted, during which at least one well will be drilled. After that the drill can be put to action to dig many wells every year in Sierra Leone and Liberia.

This new drill is capable of drilling up to 40 boreholes each year which could bring water to more than 40,000 people, year after year.

The Village Drill Hybrid is portable and can reach remote communities that most drilling rigs cannot. It can be transported by a small truck and then hand-carried to its final destination. It is powerful enough to penetrate tough ground conditions.

The Village Drill Hybrid is a machine that allows you to drill a borehole in one of two ways:

  • Manually by spinning a handwheel, or
  • Automatically using electricity (or a generator). Using the electric option, you can now drill with just two people.

With the Village Drill, instead of spending tens of thousands of dollars hiring a 20-ton drilling rig to drill just one well, it is possible to make the same investment in the Village Drill and produce dozens of wells a year.
