Water Filters – Egypt

Through our partnership with GHNI, we are helping to provide water filters to families in need in Egypt.

Donate a Water Filter

A donation of $120 NZD supplies a water filter to a household in Egypt helping ensure they have access to safe, clean drinking water.

If you would like to donate a water filter (or micro-enterprise loan) to a family in Egypt please visit our Donation Page. All donations are tax-deductible in New Zealand.

April 2025 - Visit to see GHNI's projects in Cairo

In April 2025, David and Margaret visited Egypt to see GHNI projects in and around Cairo. They visited Ezbet El Haggana - a crowded informal settlement of Sudanese refugees and Egyptian migrants with limited infrastructure - resulting in poor sanitation and limited access to clean water (CT Trust is funding a TCD development project in that community). They also visited Ezbet El Nakhl, an overcrowded slum in Cairo with poor sanitation and high rates of disease. GHNI has been providing water filters and micro-enterprise loans to some of the women and families in these communities (as well as to other communities in Egypt). However, there is still a strong need for more water filters so that every household in these communities has access to clean water.

July 2025 update. David & Margaret set a goal (dream) of supplying 300 water filters to families in Egypt. Thanks to a generous friend, the first 100 water filters have been funded, and are now being ordered ready for distribution. While that is underway, we hope to gather funds for the next 100 water filters.

An Example of the Difference a Water Filter can Make

On one of the farms, Umm Amir, a woman in her sixties, was living through difficult times.
She was suffering from kidney failure, and the doctors had stressed that she should never drink tap water, as her health was unbearable.
But the problem was that there was no water filter in her house, and buying a new one was beyond her means… She could barely manage her daily sustenance.
Every time she drank water, she felt afraid, as if every sip might increase her pain.
One ordinary day, as she sat in her small house, she heard a knock on the door.
She opened it to find the service team carrying a large box… containing a new water filter.
"We've come to install it for you, Umm Amir," one of them said with a smile.
She couldn't believe her eyes… The filter she'd dreamed of was right there in front of her, without paying a single penny.
The team installed it. Then whenever she looked at it, her tears streamed down her cheeks. Not from sadness, but from joy… because she felt that there were still people who cared for others and extended a helping hand without expecting anything in return. From that day on, the cup of water became not just a means of drinking, but a symbol of safety, compassion, and a blessing she hadn't expected.

December 2025 - Update

In Ezbit el Haggana, Egypt, nearly 96% of families now have safe sanitation access. Health knowledge has also improved dramatically in the community thanks to health education lessons run by local GHNI and TCD staff..

August 2025 update. The first 30 water filters have been installed in Egypt, and the next 70 should be coming soon.
