Ethical Transparency Alliance

The Ethical Transparency Alliance was launched by CT Trust in 2025 to empower consumers, organisations, and communities to demand and achieve ethical transparency in the products they buy and sell.

The Ethical Transparency Alliance is an alliance of organisations, brands, advocates, academics, and business leaders working to bridge the gap between consumer demand for ethical supply?chain data and the current lack of trusted, accessible information.

The core strategy is to:

1. Campaign for standardised ethical product data:

The Alliance encourages brands and manufacturers to provide verified information about a product’s ethical and sustainable practices in a way that can be accessed by scanning the product.

This uses globally recognised standards such as GS1 standard digital links, which are encoded as 2D barcodes (e.g. QR Code) and printed on product packaging. Consumers can then scan the 2D barcode to access information about the product and manufacturer's ethical and sustainable practices.

2. Encourage companies to publish this data:

This includes details about labour conditions, sourcing, environmental impact, and social responsibility, so consumers and organisations can make informed choices easily.

Why It Matters

Too often, consumers have no way of knowing the true impact of the products they buy. Poor labour practices, environmental harm, and unsafe conditions persist in global supply chains because transparency is limited.

The Ethical Transparency Alliance aims to change that by creating a system where every scan, label, or data point tells a clear, verified story.
